Why Cloth?
There are many reasons for parents to consider cloth diapers over disposable diapers.
Every year, Americans alone contribute millions of tons of soiled diapers to landfills across the country. Diapers are the third largest single product that contribute to landfills only behind newspapers and beverage containers. Cloth diapers are an economically friendly option that can easily reduce some of this waste.
Not only are cloth diapers eco-friendly, they are also much healthier for our babies and children as they contain none of the harmful chemicals that can be found in the majority of disposable diapers (such as Dioxin, TBT or sodium polyacrylate). There have been no significant studies done to see what the long-term effects of these chemicals are.
Because cloth is much more "breathable" than the plastic that disposable diapers are made from, diaper rashes are nearly eliminated. In addition, cloth does not "hide" the feeling of wetness as disposable diapers do, and due to this fact, children have been shown to potty train nearly six months sooner than children in disposables (some as early as 15 months!).
